Moving Design

Under the hashtag “vanlife”, social media users have been celebrating travelling and living in self-converted, built-out campervans for some years now. The wealth of ideas shown here inspired Hymer in 2019 to produce the visionary “VisionVenture” design study, from which the Venture S series model emerged. Designed for two people, this campervan draws attention with its striking off-road look, characterised by an eye-catching colour scheme and honeycomb-look decals. Inside, it surprises with a completely new layout concept. One of the most striking innovations is the pop-top roof with its air chamber sidewalls. At the push of a button, a compressor fills the roof with air, creating a space with sleeping accommodation for two people. The sleeping area is accessible via a narrow, permanently installed staircase, the steps of which provide additional storage space. In the rear of the van is a seating area surrounded on three sides by large glass windows. This so-called “Infinity Screen” lets plenty of light into the van interior and connects it with the surroundings. The horizontally divided tailgate can be opened completely, turning the lower, wood-planked section into a sun deck. The interior of the van features a fully equipped kitchenette and a toilet that, thanks to a clever concept, can be converted into a larger wet room including a floor-level shower with one flick of the wrist. The passenger seat and a table integrated into the sidewall behind it can be converted into a home office if required. All areas of the van are characterised by both sophisticated use of space and high-quality innovative materials, resulting in a perfect balance of function, weight, comfort and aesthetics. In their statement, the jury praised the outstanding design quality of the exterior, which is also reflected in several highly innovative design solutions in the interior. The jury concluded: “The Venture S offers impressive functionality and flexibility. In addition, the choice of materials, the colour scheme and innovations such as the large windows or the sun deck tailgate succeed in appealing to users emotionally and turning ‘vanlife’ into a true experience.”
