Typeface
Four Tones Font
Chinese is a tonal language, which means that the way a syllable is pronounced can change its meaning. This typeface visualises the four tones of modern Mandarin – level tone, rising tone, low tone and falling tone. The font design is fundamentally inspired by the phonetic symbols of the four tones. When used for classical Chinese poetry, the expressive shapes of the font help readers understand the sound and rhythmic changes of a poem. Beyond practical benefit, the filigree characters exude an artistic charm.
