The Ferrari 488 GTB was first unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2015. Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, directed by Flavio Manzoni, the car features very sculptural flanks which are the key to its character. The design is aerodynamically highly efficient yet retains the classically clean, pure lines typical of Ferrari. The 488 GTB’s exceptional sportiness and performance are underscored by particularly aggressive styling. This sports car is equipped with outstanding technology developed in motor racing, and presents itself with a twin-turbo rear mid-engine. The expressive front is characterised by a dual grille opening feeding two radiators. An elegant double front spoiler is closely inspired by the look of Formula 1 racing cars, with two centrally arranged pylons and a deflector that channels air towards the flat underbody. A new colour, Rosso Corsa Metallizzato, was developed to underscore this model’s supremely sporty character as well as its unique elegance and exclusivity. Seen at close quarters, it has a surprising depth and glossiness achieved by using a triple-layer formulation in which millions of micro-particles are suspended in the paint. With a refined sense for the desires of the target group, the design of the Ferrari 488 GTB also manages to create a racing car ambiance in its interior. The ergonomically shaped cockpit makes the power of this sports car come to life.
Statement by the Jury
The design of the Ferrari 488 GTB visualises its driving performance in a perfect manner. Its distinctive design idiom maintains the heritage of the Ferrari 308 in the tradition of the Ferrari styling. In addition, elements from Formula 1 racing have been consistently integrated, particularly into the front. The combination of these elements makes the sports car unique, with a design that manages to preserve the typical Ferrari elegance.
