At the beginning of the development of the DualSense Edge Wireless Controller was the question of what makes a professional game controller. The answer: It gives the user power – in the form of the greatest possible control. This control requires that users can adapt the game controller to their individual preferences in order to be able to steer intuitively and precisely through the respective game. And that is exactly what the DualSense Edge Wireless Controller offers. At the express request of the gaming community, the form factor and ergonomics of the predecessor were to be retained, which presented the designers with the challenge of having to integrate numerous new features into a device of unchanged size. The result of the development process was a new wireless controller that can be personalised in many respects. This is made possible by replaceable parts that adapt to hand size or playing style, including newly added back buttons whose hemispherical shape is reminiscent of the stones in the board game Go, as well as interchangeable stick modules and caps. The interchangeability of the stick modules ensures that the controller can be used for a long time even with heavy use. Another improvement is the addition of a function button to meet the need of gamers to also be able to adjust the volume and in-game chat settings or swap profiles while playing. The back buttons and trigger elements can also be individually configured to make the controls more comfortable depending on the game. The partial use of rubber on the back of the grips and finely embossed patterns on the top of the triggers further enhance usability. The basic design theme of the PlayStation 5 has been continued: Sharp edges at the top of the touchpad, extended black areas on the rear and top and precise LED lines extending to the front end give the controller its distinctive look. “This controller opens up a vast range of possibilities for gamers to adapt it to their own gaming style. The variability and variety of functions in combination with outstanding ergonomics predestine it for both leisure applications and high-performance use in the e-sports environment,” said the jury.
