The Bugaboo Dragonfly was specially developed to meet the needs of families who live in the city, as they are constantly confronted with situations in everyday urban life to which they must be able to react flexibly, even with a stroller – be it a broken lift to the underground or a third-floor flat where there is no way to park the stroller on the ground floor. The Dragonfly is a full-size stroller that can be folded up in one single movement, even with a bassinet or seat attached. This is made possible by an innovative folding mechanism, the central element of which is the joints in the centre of the frame. By pressing the wide button on the handle, the lock is released and the stroller can be folded compactly in one smooth movement by pushing the handle down and pulling it upwards. The stroller can then stand freely, be pulled on its wheels or shouldered using the carrying strap. “The Bugaboo Dragonfly is both evolutionary and revolutionary in the way it folds,” says Aernout Dijkstra-Hellinga, Bugaboo Head of Design. “Extensive user testing and a long, iterative design process were necessary to achieve the perfect balance between function and form.” The jury recognised this achievement with a Red Dot: Best of the Best: “Despite its complexity, the folding mechanism is surprisingly simple in use. The ease with which this stroller can be folded as a whole is evidence of a design that has been thought through down to the last detail. Even the click when it clicks into place sounds like a sound designer was involved.” But even beyond the patented folding design, the stroller impresses with its lightweight yet robust construction, its suspension and a large basket under the seat. By using high-quality bio-based materials instead of fossil-based plastics, it was also possible to reduce the stroller’s CO₂ footprint by more than a fifth. The jurors also praised the harmonious overall impression by the stroller: “All elements are coherently integrated and everything together creates a very reduced, coherent image despite the complex functionality – a leap in quality in stroller design.”
