The Breville Edge Series, consisting of a kettle and toaster, is inspired by the design principles of mid-century design, but interprets them in a decidedly contemporary manner. It relies on clean, clearly defined lines with soft curves, executed here in the use of chrome. The base area has been given a high-gloss finish, which visually enlivens the appearance and protects the worktop by means of better insulation. The kettle also generates 75 per cent less steam, which is a particular advantage in small spaces.
Statement by the Jury
Minimalist retro aesthetics meet a contemporary understanding of form in the Breville Edge Series. The devices also impress in terms of functionality.
