The Bieder & Maier coffee brand was created to pay homage to the famous Viennese coffee house culture with a contemporary twist. The name refers to the imperial era of Biedermeier, when numerous coffee houses opened, as well as to the barista’s name, Valentin Maier. The brand design is inspired by the first giraffe brought to Vienna in 1828. It was a sensation and coffee houses started offering coffee “à la giraffe” in its honour. The key visual shows an illustration of a giraffe wearing boots and a rider in historical attire. The word mark combines a contemporary typeface with an arched ampersand. The rather unusual choice of colours is also part of the high-profile design strategy.
