Red Dot on Tour: Successful opening in Basel
For the fifth time, the best works of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design are presented in Basel. On 6 March 2015, the exhibition "Design auf dem Podest" ("Design on the podium") was successfully opened.
On this special occasion, keyspeaker Walter Gunz came all the way from Morocco. The co-founder of Media Markt shared the platform with Professor Dr Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, designer and photographer Jean Jacques Schaffner, and Swiss politician Christoph Brutschin, giving important impulses on communication design.
Walter Gunz emphasised the special role of creative minds as inventors, while Christoph Brutschin has highlighted the economic relevance of design. According to the "Basler Zeitung" "the most striking statement" was given by Professor Dr Peter Zec: "The client is the greatest enemy of creativity", the design expert is quoted.
Among numerous guests who were allowed to inspect the 101 works first, was also Andi Mesmer. The holder of Mesmer Société is the sole designer from Basel, who was awarded with the Red Dot in 2014.
Jean Jacques Schaffner highlights the relevance of the exhibition for the creative scene in Switzerland in an interview with the "Basler Zeitung". The heydays of Swiss design have passed, but a scene must "be linked to characters and opinions".
"Design auf dem Podest" ("Design on the podium") is open until 28 March 2015
