Office design straight to the point: awarded furniture and matching accessories
The employees are one of the most important resources of a company. They are its engine and make up its identity. This alone is sufficient reason for providing them with an environment in which they feel comfortable and enjoy operating. Flexible and independent working, communication, teamwork, but also calm, relaxation and concentration – a modern office equipment should offer all these things. The laureates of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018 demonstrate the trends of the industry and give insights into its future.
Dynamic ergonomics: D1 – Office and Low Chair
When designing the chair “D1 – Office and Low Chair”, the aim was to promote a seating behaviour in which form, function and ergonomics work together in an almost symbiotic manner. The seat and backrest adapt flexibly to changing postures, possessing a functionality that actively encourages users to sit in a dynamic position.
The key part of the design is a mechanism that is integrated into a visible joint below the sitting surface. Distinctively innovative about it is that it allows the seat and backrest to tilt independently around four axes. Depending on the posture, they lean forwards and backwards, while also pivoting to both sides. The D1, manufactured by WAGNER and designed by DIEZ OFFICE, has been awarded a Red Dot: Best of the Best by the jury.
Active stool “uebobo”
The ones that like to be active at work and prefer multicoloured furnishing, find an ideal companion in the stool “uebobo” from UE Furniture, designed by ITO Design. It stands out with an impressive design language and offers an innovative concept of active sitting. Adopting the idea of a gymnastic ball, its ergonomics achieve that the seated person is constantly in motion. “The uebobo active stool impresses with a colourful and appealing design that turns into an eye-catcher wherever it is used, providing high seating comfort. Its clear and distinct shape pairs with sophisticated functionality,” says the Red Dot Jury about the Red Dot: Best of the Best winner.
Focused working with “ThinkingQuietly”
“ThinkingQuietly” is an open plan workstation, awarded with a Red Dot for its good design quality. Its contemporary, noise-insulating materials make for a balanced sound environment, contributing to a quieter workplace. A range of accessories increases the acoustic performance and provides the user with a more rewarding work environment. Accessories include a living terrarium acting as a dividing screen, a mobile divider that doubles as a carry bag and opens to provide personal storage and a power source for charging laptops or mobile phones. Moreover, the desk pad made from felt material adds a further acoustic element. ThinkingQuietly was manufactured by ThinkingWorks and designed by Jones and Partners.
Versatility and functionality: table “mAx”
The folding conference table “mAx”, manufactured by Wilkhahn, Wilkening+Hahne and designed by Störiko Product Design, provides offices with a universal solution. Its elegant T-shaped pedestal is made entirely of die-cast aluminium and contains an ingenious, patent mechanism. This makes it easy to operate the table with one hand and offers a self-stabilising solution and integrated interconnection of the insert panels with creating a high-quality look. The pedestal is available in three sizes, allowing for a variety of formats and shapes. This makes the table, which was awarded a Red Dot, suitable for use in seminars, flexible co-working spaces or executive workshops.
Well equipped with fitting accessories
Matching accessories for the office should not be missing. Thus, several products from the manufacturer LEITZ ACCO Brands were awarded in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019: The hole punch and stapler from the “Leitz New NeXXt” product range were awarded with a Red Dot for their high standards of engineering and their beautiful appearance. Furthermore, the laminator “Leitz iLAM Office Pro” received an Honourable Mention. The jury was convinced by its performance capabilities and the high-quality appearance.
The design of the self-inking stamp “Trodat Professional 4.0”, manufactured by Trodat and designed by formquadrat, combines strength, cleanliness and speed. Therefore, the product received a Red Dot. Just as much of a success was the manufacturer Biella Schweiz with its magnetic clip file “Attraction”. It comes with a clip that has strong magnets attached to it which hold together up to 25 sheets of paper. As the clip is magnetic on both sides, it can be used to stack several copies neatly and precisely.
