Media event “Red Dot Gala” - greatest minds in the industry meet international correspondents
Not only the biggest names in the industry are submitting their products to design competitions. The more renowned the award, the better also for start-ups and medium-sized enterprises. The Red Dot Gala is a golden opportunity for the media: Here, they get to know potentially every current product in all kinds of branches, the Red Dot: Best of the Best winners, world-class designers and brands – and the people behind.
At the end of the Red Dot jury session, only quality will have mattered – be it the quality of seduction, responsibility, use, or function, as Professor Dr. Peter Zec once defined good design. Every product which fulfilled one or more of these qualities in an excellent way, and thus convinced the jurors, will be on show in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, which is part of the UNESCO world heritage Zollverein.
The jury is another point of attraction. It represents a real think tank for present international design. Fashion design genius Datuk’ Prof. Jimmy Choo, car design icon Ken Okuyama or the Grandseigneur of Swedish product culture Hans Ehrich, are only three out of ca. 40 judges of the Red Dot Award 2015.
This illustrious group of brand and product experts is in Germany twice a year: During the jury session, when they surely have different obligations than giving interviews, and at the Red Dot Gala, when they regularly take their time to give insights in their work.
Especially during the Red Dot: Best of the Best reception, and later on in the course of the legendary Designers’ Night, reporters from print, radio, TV as well as bloggers take the opportunity to find out about the attraction of product excellence. Plus, chief designers of the biggest industrial brands, but also the local stars of medium-sized companies are here to share their success.
Moreover, the Red Dot Gala is the opening of “Design on Stage”, the world’s largest special exhibition of brand-new design; all winning products are exhibited for four weeks from the day of the Red Dot Gala, in the Red Dot Design Museum. So, journalists have the chance to speak to the designers, who will be explaining their freshly awarded innovations directly beneath the product.
Far more than 1.000 winners and winning products present the editorial opportunity to write more than 1.000 fascinating stories. This is why the Red Dot Gala is regularly visited by the biggest TV and radio media in Germany, international design magazines, local press, and journalists, who accompany award-winners from their respective countries.
