Less is more. Aspects of minimal design

The studio exhibition “Less is more. Aspects of minimal design” at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen brings the qualities of the often hidden into the spotlight. From 26 April to 29 May, visitors can learn more about the fundamentals of minimalist design by means of award-winning products from the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021.

Reduction to the fundamentals

“Less is more!” once propagated the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) and thus established a design principle that has lost none of its validity to this day. On the one hand, “less is more” aims at a design that is as reduced as possible, dispensing with anything superfluous. On the other hand, in times of technological progress and change, it is also a question of juxtaposing technical complexity with a design that is as reduced as possible, with the aim of achieving simple operation and a high level of user-friendliness in this way.
