KJO Symphony Orchestra plays concert at Red Dot Design Museum
On Wednesday, 27 April 2016, the visitors of the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, were amazed when suddenly the sound of the “Ouverture Egmond” by Ludwig van Beethoven filled the premises of the former boiler house of the Zollverein coalmine Industrial Complex. In the Stocker’s Station of the museum over 50 youth musicians of the KJO Symphony Orchestra (Kennemer Jeugd Orkest) from Haarlem, Netherlands, had assembled to give a concert.
Under the direction of conductor Matthijs Broers the symphony orchestra played with “Night on Bald Mountain” by Modest Moussorgsky another classic piece in which particularly the strings and brass had a beautiful sound in the large spaces of the museum. The film and musical friends among the visitors were treated as well: In addition to a medley of known musical songs such as “Memory” from “Cats” by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the haunting theme music of the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” was played under the hanging Audi in the Stocker’s Station.
The concert was the first of a six-day tour with various stations in Germany: “We are pleased to begin our little tour in the former boiler house in Essen,” said orchestra board member Sopia Rohn. “I know the museum and since we are on a cultural tour as well, it's great that the young people can experience the exhibition,” says Rohn. The next concert of the KJO Symphony Orchestra takes place in Ladenburg, Germany, on Thursday, 28 April 2016.
