The illustrated book depicts the story of a little girl and her guardian who go on a walk into an imaginary world. Less a book than a panorama one-shot movie, the characters’ journey presents the themes of growth, life circulation and bravery. On each spread, creatures appear huge in comparison to the human figures. The reversal of proportions underlines the symbolic content of the narrative, generates a sense of tension and conveys the child’s amazement. By creating a dreamy mood with soft colours, the illustrations leave plenty of room for the reader’s own associations.
