The New Yorker – Artificial Spring
Inspired by extreme weather conditions which have recently delayed the arrival of spring in cities like New York, this cover design personalises the season of growth. The theme is highlighted by vernal colours in contrast to murky pastels of the surroundings, while the gesture of the title figure illuminates the idea that our planet is a fragile ecosystem needing protection. Meanwhile, the geometric scheme of a greenhouse points to the future: if the current trend continues, we will possibly have to rely on artificial oases to feel the joy that comes with spring and its blossoms.
