The Birds

This LP and the accompanying brochure introduce listeners to the ancient play “The Birds” by Aristophanes in an adaptation by Nikos Karathanos. The fundamental idea informing the design is a play on light. The covers show birds in a circular arrangement. They are portrayed in a powerful illustration full of contradictions, rendering the play’s characteristic final scene when the birds dance in the sunlight. The play on light is intensified through the particular printing techniques employed, such as the use of light-absorbing inks, which create an impressive glow-in-the-dark experience.
