The second generation of the Nest learning thermostat represents significant progress. It has all the well thought-out features of the first generation product pooled into a significantly sleeker, more elegant form. A new, custom-made sensor screen results in a continuous, clean front that catches the attention. The solid stainless steel ring, for the temperature and user interface controls, is particularly striking.
