MODS

The MODS (Modular Drilling System) is a flexible and smart drilling system designed to reduce costs and physical strain associated with the conventional drilling process in aircraft assembly. It uses a flexible and lightweight frame that can be adapted to different working areas, while a new drilling unit improves the operator’s workflow and enables a more autonomous drilling process. The lightweight adaptable frame is easy to change and locks on surfaces via electrical suction cups. A simple plug system allows easy and quick customisation. The smart platform is the brain of the system, which scans the surface to know its exact position on the aircraft. It uses this data to create a virtual hole matrix with the exact surface angle to ensure perfectly perpendicular holes. The new drilling unit, which replaces the conventional automated drilling unit (ADU), allows operators to easily change drill bits by swapping the spindle itself, and improves their workflow by facilitating a more autonomous drilling process.
