Website
Klim Type Foundry
The website of Klim Type Foundry, a type foundry and design office in New Zealand, underwent a complete redesign with the aim of placing the customers and designers centre stage. They are invited to browse the huge variety of different typefaces for use across physical and digital applications and to choose the ones that are right for them. An integral part of the new website is Söhne, a collection of new typefaces described as “the memory of Akzidenz-Grotesk framed through the reality of Helvetica”. The relaunched site is an ambitious combination of speed, functionality and elegance, which is expressed, for example, in extraordinary animations of individual letters. Structured around responsive and variable layouts, the site is based on classic Swiss design principles embedded in CSS grids. The type specimen generation is randomised and based on a set of defined rules for how type should be displayed.
심사평
The concept of this new website impresses with a powerful and self-reliant design including animations that are innovative in this context. Despite all the sophistication, the site offers a practical user interface with a clear and self-explanatory navigation. The aim of placing the designer as customer at the centre of the browsing and buying experience has thus been implemented and fulfilled to outstanding effect.
