Design and structure

In a pandemic situation like COVID-19, the demand for negative pressure wards surges, as they can become crucial for the survival of sick people. The KARE MCM concept addresses such scenarios with a highly functional design. Quick and self-explanatory to assemble in the case of an emergency, this negative pressure station comprises the three main elements of frame, air tents and functional panels. The negative pressure frame makes it possible to create a step-wise differentiation of pressure between individual rooms. The air-shower structure is designed to ensure effective ventilation. The air tents facilitate setting up a large space in just a few minutes, while the functional panels of the system are easy to mount to the air tent. The concept permits medical staff to treat patients without having to wear protective suits, for instance, by using the pass-through boxes. The MCM (Mobile Clinic Module) can be customised according to the space available and expanded from a single isolation bed to a large intensive care unit. Moreover, it can also be used for other medical tasks, including as a screening clinic or as an emergency ward. The entire station can be transported by airplane. An open-access web software application has been developed for easy modification of the entire MCM layout. The KARE MCM thus promotes the management of emergency situations at the right time and without wasting resources.

심사평

The superstructure of the KARE MCM is highly impressive, as it is perfectly adapted to meet medical emergency situations. The design is recognisably oriented towards the principle of self-explanatory functionality. Thus, by means of complementary elements, it allows a negative pressure isolation ward that meets all technical requirements to be created in a short time. The well-thought-out concept not only allows modification to meet any situation, it also convinces with its clear aesthetics.
