Hose Reel

At some time or other, all amateur gardeners have faced the tiresome task of reeling in a hose after watering the garden. If the hose is covered in wet earth or grass, it can also be a messy chore. The Hose Reel was developed with both of these problems in mind. The product designers constructed a unit that not only houses the 15 metre garden hose, but also washes it clean during the winding process. This patented system has a water catchment part intelligently designed to use the water from the shower nozzle to rinse the hose clean. The unit has a simple geometric form and an understated colour scheme that harmoniously blends into various garden scenarios. “This product’s simplicity is very persuasive,” confirmed the jury. “It’s a functional cube with intelligently coordinated elements in a very appealing combination of colours. The silver shells on the side of the dark-grey unit provide an elegant contrast.” A closer look at the Hose Reel reveals even more impressive details. All visible parts are cleverly arranged so as not to detract from its minimalist design. A fold-away handle is located on the side, with the water supply hose and a recessed carry handle discreetly incorporated on the back. The designers put a great deal of thought into selecting a material that is as robust as it is functional: a special coating on the hose prevents it from getting tangled or sticking together inside the body. The main unit’s centre of gravity is set very low to prevent it from toppling when the hose is reeled in or out. The designers focused on function and hygiene when developing this gardening accessory, and the result is a product with a purist design that is destined to appeal to every gardener.
