Heimliche Helden

The exhibition “Hidden Heroes. The Genius of Everyday Things” of the Vitra Design Museum in cooperation with Hi-Cone is devoted to the history behind everyday objects, from files through to folding rulers – all products that have acquired fame and history resulting from mass worldwide use and make our daily lives easier – almost without anyone noticing. The website designed parallel to this presents a new, media-oriented interface for an exhibition on the Internet, continuing the experience of space by surprisingly alternating between two- and three-dimensionality. Set against a bright background, the website features a fascinating, easy-to-use and original navigation in the form of a beam in the middle of the site, which imparts interesting facts and stories about the various heroes. The play with a 2D preview and a detailed view of a 3D room symbolises the difference between the perception and success of the particular exhibit. Furthermore, visitors can also add their own contributions to the exhibition and suggest further exhibits. Statement by the jury »This website is a marvellous example that the combination of visual aspects with sound is highly significant in making an Internet presence successful. This allows for additional sensual aspects and permits visitors to engage more immediately. The design delivers an exciting experience; proportion, composition and typography have been carefully implemented and the sound elements are full of subtle wit.«
