Geograph Rainforest
A watch usually has a special meaning for its wearer. The design concept of the Geograph Rainforest chronograph thus puts an outstanding material centre stage in order to combine it with a highly specific message. The premium appearance of this chronograph features two counter dials made of fossilised palm wood that has its origin in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, believed to be 70 million years old. This material is of highly organic appearance and set against an amber background, its rod-like structures produce fascinating ochre and sorrel speckles. Furthermore, it throws into stark relief the blued-steel hands of the 30-minute counter at 12 o’clock and the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. The Geograph Rainforest is complemented by an elegant looking, sun-shaped small seconds with date window at 9 o’clock and a second time zone indicated by a central serpentine heat-blued steel hand. As for the special message that this chronograph intends to convey, its display-back engravings show the silhouettes of an orang-utan and a rhinoceros hornbill, reminding the wearer that these two endangered species need to be preserved. The company Louis Moinet supports the Pulau Banding Foundation, an organisation that aims to preserve the Malaysian tropical forest of Belum-Temengor. As an ambassador concerning this issue, the Geograph Rainforest was officially launched at the Baselworld 2011 in a ceremony graced by the presence of the King of Malaysia, who, in turn, became an ambassador of good design.
심사평
The Geograph Rainforest chronograph impresses by the way in which unusual materials have been implemented into its design. A homogeneous combination of luxurious and organic materials. The design is an expression of a high degree of responsibility.
