Discovery Dock – Mixed Reality 3D Sound Experience

At the Discovery Dock, visitors can explore the Port of Hamburg interactively along with state-of-the-art VR technology, projections and live simulations. Using specially developed software and audio concepts, this world has been brought to life through music and sound design. Typical harbour sounds like the air horns of ships, cranes, wind or water were captured using a 3D microphone array in an eight-capsule design. Interactive soundscapes and algorithmic compositions change constantly in depth and complexity. Based on a specially designed 3D network of 50 speakers that allows music and sounds to be heard from all directions, a new level of immersion has been achieved.
