The abundance of plastic waste has become a major global challenge. CanReseal offers an innovative solution to reducing our dependence on single-use plastic by enabling cans to be resealed. Canovation’s patented technology adds threads to the lids of most cans. The threads allow a cap to be screwed into the can for a liquid and airtight seal. The concept offers an all-metal design that is compatible with standard can body sizes and types. It is based on the assumption that, when pursuing closed-loop recycling, metal cans are the most sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging, as they have a mature and profitable recycling infrastructure. CanReseal aims to help consumers reduce food waste and save money by buying in bulk while easily maintaining portions. Manufacturing is the same as for conventional cans, since the caps can be made along with the can lids. A strong advantage is that existing manufacturers can easily convert their production, and thus make rapid global scalability possible. It is expected that with further development and dissemination, the cost will approach or even be less than the production cost of familiar cans.
