Advancing cancer care with human-centered Artificial Intelligence
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in the world, with only one out of every ten patients living more than five years after diagnosis. Clinicians (radiologists and surgeons) require solutions for earlier detection and better surgical planning. Artificial intelligence (AI) has great potential to support decision making, but it is rarely designed with the human in mind, resulting in limited adoption and impact on patients’ health.
Assessing resectability and defining a surgical strategy is a complex process that is currently carried out using radiological CT images. This concept puts surgeons in a better position to provide the best surgery to their patients through earlier detection and better surgery planning, unlocking the potential of AI in clinical practice.
The solution harnesses AI to generate a novel 3D anatomical model on an auto-stereoscopic holographic display that is synchronised with the trusted radiology workstation. It enables surgeons to gain an instant and intuitive understanding of the patient’s anatomy from the 3D perspective with which they are most familiar.
