Winners’ exhibition – The best projects of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design in the Museum for Communication Berlin

Once again this year, the Museum for Communication Berlin is presenting the best projects of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design. From 6 November, the studio exhibition “Best Communication Design – Red Dot Winners Selection 2016” will be showing all the “Red Dot: Best of the Best” and “Red Dot: Grand Prix” award-winning works. The entire range of international communication design will be represented, from brand and packaging design via e-commerce to online projects. In addition, the show will include all the winning projects by German agency group Serviceplan which this year received the honorary title “Red Dot: Agency of the Year”. The exhibition will run until 15 January 2017.

“WhatsGerman” scores in two categories at the same time
Among the projects of the Serviceplan group is the “WhatsGerman” mobile app which received awards in both the “Apps” and “Social Responsibility” categories. The project focuses on the migrant situation in Europe. Most of the refugee immigrants speak no German and waiting lists for language courses are long. This is where “WhatsGerman” comes in. Via the Whatsapp platform, users are sent a lesson on their smartphone every day consisting of text, emojis to illustrate points and videos to help with pronunciation. These lessons are available in English, Arabic and will soon be offered in other languages as well.

Outstanding packaging design by Lenovo
Another award-winner that will also be on show at the Museum for Communication Berlin is the packaging design for the new “Lenovo Yoga Series” – consisting of smartphone, table and notebook. The earth-coloured paper and the reduced print make the design simple, authentic and above all environmentally friendly. Packages are flat and contemporary in appearance. When the box is opened, the product rises up slightly, creating an element of surprise.

Born05 achieves success with anniversary edition
Another winner of the Red Dot: Best of the Best was the “iFly50” travel magazine project by Dutch agency Born05 in the “Online” category. To mark the 50th anniversary of the magazine, the agency selected 50 of the world’s most breathtaking travel destinations and presented them using images, animations and music. Readers were also offered a huge range of extras: videos, audio files, 360-degree panoramas and exclusive articles. The result: no other issue of the magazine was read as widely as “iFly50”.

Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016
The aim of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design is to single out good design and creativity. In 2016, communication designers and marketing professionals from 46 countries took part in the competition. Only the best entries were awarded the “Red Dot” quality seal by the 26 internationally renowned experts that made up the Red Dot jury.
