Spot on – The winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016 have been chosen
The winners of this year’s Red Dot Award: Communication Design have been chosen. Participants from across the world were able to demonstrate their skills in a total of 21 categories. For the first time, E-Commerce and Retail Design were included in the main entry categories. The numerous communication and design projects were evaluated by a jury of 26 industry experts. In an appraisal process lasting several days, they decided who would be awarded the Red Dot this year. In 2016, only 0,8 percent of the works submitted were honoured with the Red Dot: Best of the Best – the award for outstanding design expertise.
International design quality at the highest level
The fact that submissions came from in total 46 different countries is proof that the communication design competition is increasingly being seen as an international benchmark. Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, stressed: “The increasingly international nature of our competition is proof of its growing reputation in the global design world. I am very proud that we have reached our aim of establishing a cross-border platform for good design, creative ideas and the latest campaigns. In today’s world, communication designers have become the catalysts between the worlds of language, economics and technology, in other words, they are the engines of progress. More than ever before, we want to be a driving force for development and trends in the sector and give established as well as up-and-coming designers the opportunity to find and claim their place in the market. The Red Dot seal of quality, known around the world to stand for a high level of design, helps them to achieve this.”
In contrast to the surprisingly large number of print campaign entries in 2015, this year was dominated by digital projects. In addition to the social media and apps categories, there were notable advances in website design: the classic one pager is increasingly being replaced by positive slogans, full-screen photos, striking headlines and call-to-action buttons. Web design with an emotional feel is on the increase. By establishing contact in this way, the websites achieve a digital feel-good effect and increase the loyalty users feel to the brand in question.
Award ceremony in the Konzerthaus Berlin
The proud winners of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design will be honoured in the design metropolis Berlin. It is here at the Konzerthaus Berlin that they will be invited on stage during the Red Dot Gala on 4 November 2016 to receive the coveted trophies in the presence of an audience of international guests. Excitement levels will remain high for the Red Dot: Best of the Best prize-winners as they will only find out on the evening of the awarding ceremony who amongst them has been awarded the Red Dot: Grand Prix, the highest single award in each category. The Red Dot: Junior Prize, which is awarded every year to a promising up-and-coming young designer and comes with prize money of 10,000 Euros, is also first made public during this event.
After-show party in Berlin’s E-Werk
After the Red Dot Gala, the prize-winners, jury members, leaders of the design world and representatives from the international media will celebrate the winners of the competition at the Designers’ Night. The official after-show party will take place in Berlin’s legendary E-Werk. The well-known former industrial building will, for one night only, also house the exclusive winners’ exhibition “Design on the Stage” which will showcase all the projects that won an award in 2016.
