Red Dot Award: Communication Design – the jury is growing
Only a few days left until the jury session of the Red Dot Award: Communication Design 2016 will take place. The international expert panel, the Red Dot jury, will meet in Essen, Germany, to evaluate this year’s competition entries during several days. At the end of the process it will be certain who meets the requirements of the jury and thus receives the sought-after quality seal “Red Dot”. The communications projects from around the world will among others be assessed by Chris Lee from Singapore, Jean Jacques Schaffner from Switzerland and Seung Hun Yoo from Korea.
Chris Lee: design expert from Singapore
Chris Lee is the Founder and Creative Director of Asylum, one of the most respected creative agencies in Asia. Since its inception in 1999, the agency has focused on cross-disciplinary projects that include interactive design, product development, environmental and interior design, packaging, apparel design, branding and graphic design. Asylum is defined as an unconventional maverick in the creative world; its work has been recognised with more than 100 international awards. For his work, Chris Lee was awarded “designer of the year” and “design of the year” in the President Design Award Singapore. He has already served as a juror for many of the top international creative awards. Moreover, Lee is a founding member and President of The Design Society, a non-profit organisation that aims to promote visual culture through exhibitions, workshops and education.
Swiss design luminary Jean Jacques Schaffner
Jean Jacques Schaffner from Switzerland studied graphic design at the Basel art school. This was followed by further training as a photographer and TV music director as well as study stays in Paris, London, San Francisco and at the University of Utah. From 2000 to 2003, he was President of the European Brand and Packaging Design Association (PDA). He is furthermore a member of many design juries. In 1976, he founded Schaffner & Conzelmann Designersfactory in Basel, a full-service communication and design agency and one of the most renowned agencies in Switzerland. Its client portfolio comprises all segments of the economy, public and cultural institutions as well as NGOs.
Seung Hun Yoo – founder of CO: UX Design Lab
Seung Hun Yoo is the founder of CO: UX Design Lab at the School of Art & Design at Korea University. He has a master’s degree in design and a PhD in industrial engineering. He worked at Samsung Mobile among others and designed many flagship mobile handsets. After seven years of working as User Experience Director at Samsung in Korea and at design offices in the USA, he started at the Korea University for cognitive design research studies and education in 2012. The CO: UX Design Lab performs UX design based on users’ cognitive behaviour research. It has already been introduced by the Korean media as one of the most remarkable UX design research labs in South Korea. Seung Hun Yoo and his team are currently conducting cross-disciplinary projects such as transparent UX display, medical UX design and next-generation wearable devices.
