Festive opening of the anniversary exhibition “Enduring, not ultimate form”

From 29 June, 60 years of design in Essen will come to life in Hall 5 at Zollverein World Heritage Site. The exhibition “Enduring, not ultimate form” is dedicated to the rich history of the Design Zentrum NRW. Visitors will experience the development from the first announced product competition to today’s worldwide renowned Red Dot Award through pictures and exhibits. This includes the evolvement from the first product show to the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design. Historical product designs like the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL will be tangible by the reconstruction of the first presentation “Ständige Schau formschöner Industrieerzeugnisse” (‘Permanent Show of Elegant Industrial Products’) from 1955. Therefore, the title “Enduring, not ultimate form” refers on the one hand to the constant change and optimisation of everyday objects and on the other hand to the history of the exhibitions and competitions itself.

“Enduring, not ultimate form” is the first joint exhibition of the Ruhr Museum and the Red Dot Design Museum Essen under the patronage of the President of the German Bundestag, Professor Dr Norbert Lammert. On 28 June 2015, Professor Heinrich Theodor Grütter, director of the Ruhr Museum, and Professor Dr Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, invite to the festive opening of the anniversary exhibition. Besides Norbert Lammert, Garrelt Duin, Minister of Economic Affairs, Energy and Industry of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Andreas Bomheuer, Head of Culture, Integration and Sport Department of Essen, and Hermann Marth, Chairman Stiftung Zollverein will speak their greeting. The overture of the Kesselhaus Suite by composer Dirk Reith will open the event musically.
