Autonomous and interactive: smart home devices
Within a few years, the mobile phone has been replaced by an interactive all-rounder: the smartphone. It is a phone, a browser, a pocket-office, a navigation system or a portable sound system. Since then, more mobile devices such as tablets and smart watches have become the epitome of interactivity and flexibility, matching to a digital work and everyday culture. While the all-purpose weapon smartphone will soon let disappear simple digital cameras or MP3 players, household appliances are increasingly digitally upgraded: because the future lies in the app store.
The Series 8 built-in appliances by Bosch Home Appliances offers new ways to interact with its users. Some models can be controlled via wireless internet using an app from mobile end devices. This year, Bosch Home Appliances received the highest single award "Red Dot: Best of the Best" for this product range. The integrating of numerous technological innovations and the increasing connectivity of the appliances characterises the work of Robert Sachon. He is headeding up the design department of Robert Bosch Home Appliances for the past ten years. For this focus, among others, “Robert Sachon & Bosch Home Appliances Design Team” was honoured with the highest honorary title: "Red Dot Design Team of the Year".
The trend towards digitization of household appliances is attested by two additional products that were awarded Red Dot: Best of the Best: the vacuum cleaner CordZero-C5 and the heating control system NOW. CordZero-C5 has an auto-moving and wireless cleaning technology. Thus, the vacuum cleaner follows its users. NOW is a thermostatic regulatory control system that can modulate the temperature of each heating element of a house and enables energy savings of over 40%.
From 30 June 2015, all winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 will be presented in the exhibition "Design on Stage" at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen. The Red Dot: Design Team of the Year will occupy a special place in the former boiler house of the Zollverein World Heritage Site: The special exhibition “Icons of everyday life - Bosch Home Appliances throughout the ages” will show how the appearance of Bosch appliances has constantly developed over time.
