Consumerism is at an all-time high – millions of older products are readily disposed of when newer ones are introduced every day. As a result of this, landfills are being filled with household items and appliances that are still in good, working condition. This environmental tragedy is exacerbated by the smart home trend, with people buying even more new products to streamline their lives. Smartians is a response to this issue. The concept seeks to encourage consumers to keep their ‘old’ but cherished appliances, and instead give them the ability to make them ‘smarter’. Smartians empowers consumers to build their own smart home in a fun, flexible and efficient way. Smartians is a series of motors that are connected to the cloud. These motors allow you to upgrade just about any household appliance or device. Each Smartians comes with a set of add-ons which allow you to pull, push, turn and twist to transform old products into smart ones which you can control remotely from your phone. The series is easy to use thanks to an intuitive system of snap-and-fit grids. Its design can translate the motors’ rotational movements into other movements and directions. This enables users to remotely trigger actions by simply using their hands. The Smartians Hub is connected to the Cloud and controls all Smartians modules in the home.
