The design focuses on the collocation and application of materials, aiming to increase the conversion rate of material usage and create a fast and low-cost method of production. After four months of field observation at the construction site, the designers discovered that construction waste can be utilised in other ways in the existing recycling system. First, combining construction waste with cement creates a new recycled material (referred to as ‘recycled aggregate’). The application of the reinforced concrete (RC) method is expanded by mixing expanded-metal lath with cement, resulting in a combination that makes the product more durable. Furthermore, the metal lath is malleable and can be formed into a variety of shapes. The technique using metal lathe and reinforced concrete not only allows us to recycle construction waste, but also to substitute new raw materials with construction waste. When compared to the original manufacturing process, it reduces much more waste while satisfying resource needs. Red Dot Award: Design Concept | Concept | Materials and Surfaces
