The packaging design for this Japanese alcoholic beverage called shochu reflects the scenic beauty of the distillery’s location in the South of Japan. Kaimon-dake, an especially beautiful cone-shaped mountain, inspired the design of the symbolic logo, this Japanese character (that means “black”) comes from “black” rice malts, the essential ingredient of this shochu. Furthermore, the atmosphere of this package design succeeds to express the dignity of the craftsmen who have sincerely engaged themselves in this particular distilling process. The distinctive and clearly structured label design strongly stands out among competitive products. Its key element is the logo composition, which is reminiscent of calligraphy. The magnificient silhouette of the mountain combines various graphic elements, each of them bearing a special meaning.
