The rise of headsets and smart glasses as smartphone replacements may render handheld camera designs obsolete, taking with them the hands-on craft of photography. INSIGHT aims to preserve creativity by leveraging this technological rise of headsets and smart glasses to enhance user control and expression. Designed for use with headsets or smart glasses, INSIGHT eliminates the need for a screen or markings, as it does not require direct observation. The viewfinder, frame overlay, and settings are augmented directly in front of the photographer, allowing maximum freedom in how the camera is held, thus encouraging creative exploration in framing and composition. The interface features five clickable knobs and a shutter button, with a simple colour-coded mapping that mirrors the digital augmentation. This innovative interface allows easy identification and control of exposed parameters, such as aperture or shutter speed, alongside non-destructive settings like saturation or contrast. This design makes the camera more accessible while opening new avenues for developing photographic craftsmanship. When laid flat, the camera’s interface can be used to visualise and edit photographs shot earlier. INSIGHT allows photographers to immerse themselves in the scene and enjoy enhanced creative freedom and better interaction with their subjects.
