Yanzi Memorial Hall
Based on the concept of "The Path of Yanzi’s Ideal", the project’s goal is to restore Yanzi’s perception of knowledge sharing in Fengxian in his later years by structuring the spatial sequence of the spaces, connecting the main axis from north to south, arranging the Ceremonial Square, the Forecourt, the Water Courtyard and the Hall of Sages in a progressive order. To express its holy humanistic features, the exhibition hall is made of white marble with elegant ink texture transforming the white building and black water pool into a traditional Chinese painting, depicting the Yanzi Memorial Hall in a forest.
A combination of the height of its windows with the shape of the architecture façade allows visitors looking out to appreciate the tranquility of the forest, framing their view. "Wooden and Bamboo Slips” from traditional Chinese culture are demonstrated by delicate elements with modern architectural techniques A bamboo slips ceiling, with quotations of Yanzi recorded on its hollow metal plates, and louvered façade play with light and shadow spreading the quotes on the floor and walls over the day.
From the perspective of Chinese culture and oriental philosophy, Yanzi Memorial Hall interprets and prospects the urban development and humanistic spirit of Fengxian in the new era.Red Dot Award: Design Concept | Concept | Architecture
