Yakiniku Tsuruichi
Strip-type partition boards made of wood laths, which are widely seen in Japanese architecture, were used in the construction of this restaurant. For its design, the owners were inspired by a picture from the renowned works of Utawaga Hiroshige: “Sudden Shower Over Shin-Ohasi Bridge and Atake”, which captures the moment when a summer rain shower suddenly changes the weather and surprises pedestrians. By presenting the rain as thick stripes, not only the Japanese painter’s technique was adopted but also a unique atmosphere was created.

The traditional and, at the same time, modern appearance of this restaurant is characterised by geometrically arranged, warm timber elements.
