The Raven
“The Raven” is one of Edgar Allen Poe’s best known works, telling the story of a mysterious raven’s visit to a distraught lover. The protagonist projects all of his thoughts and fears onto the bird until he ultimately breaks down. True to the supernatural atmosphere of the poem, this illustration portrays the raven as a demon. Thus the protagonist, bearing features of Poe, is being tempted into suicide by a vision of his love. The digital painting captures the dark mood in a dramatic style which is both realistic and fantastic.
