The city of Shenzhen was the subject of an exhibition, including the regeneration process for the village of Dafen on the outskirts of the Chinese city. Within a few years, the village became a huge workshop for oil painting reproductions. The aim of the exhibition was also to express the unique nature of Shenzhen, a city aspiring to become a “global pioneering city”, through contemporary architecture. The accompanying books were created after years of in-depth research. Carefully bound in a linen cover, they document the interventions into urban reality and the spirit behind them through a large number of photographs, maps and archive material.
