In recent years, lab-grown diamonds have become ever more popular as a less expensive alternative to the natural gemstone. The design of the REM X Ring is custom-made for cultured diamonds and relies entirely on the effect of the faceted gemstone. It is an innovation by the Antwerp-based Unsaid brand, which specialises in jewellery made from recycled gold and lab diamonds. It took the company two years of working together with experts worldwide to reach a stage where it was possible to produce cultured diamonds of the desired size. The development of the ring took a further 18 months, focusing on the new creative possibilities that lab diamonds offer, such as the cuts that are impossible or exceedingly difficult to achieve with a natural diamond. The hallmark of the REM X Ring is therefore also the specially developed cut that gives the diamonds the appearance of intricately faceted spheres. The ring, with its 20 stones in a full eternity setting, has a total of 2,061 extremely precisely cut facets that give the diamonds their tremendously high brilliance. The jury was very taken by the piece of jewellery. “The luxurious appearance, brilliance and truly beautiful shape of the REM X Ring with its lab-grown diamonds make it very impressive. It represents luxury that enriches people’s lives without costing a fortune.” The setting of the ring was also specially developed to make it look as if it were made of nothing but diamond. The join between the gemstones and the metal is almost invisible. This gives the ring its compact, clean appearance which, by and large, breaks with the traditional mould of diamond rings. The contemporary style is thus also aimed at Millennials, their lifestyle and emotions, and may become a new kind of classic.
