The MMCA Hyundai Motor Series was a ten-year programme jointly initiated by the Hyundai Motor Company and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. Within the field of Korean contemporary art, it aimed to instil fresh attitudes and new possibilities through the programme’s sponsorship of artists. The work of renowned artist Lee Bul exhibited through this programme investigated the continuous intersection between actual opened and closed spaces, as well as the conceptual framework of “opened vs closed” in its relation to aesthetics and the structural system. A key design element within the installation was the feature of five videos inspired by this system, creating the effect of constant motion and ascension.
