Jenseits des Horizonts Beyond the Horizon
The Pergamon Museum’s temporary exhibition “Jenseits des Horizonts” (Beyond the Horizon) deals with diverse questions about the knowledge of space in antique cultures. Visitors are guided through 16 exhibition spaces with the use of an artificial horizon. The overall design of the exhibition, transported by various communication media, gives way to a rich variety of individually styled exhibition spaces. A central theme of the exhibition deals with the mapping of the world. In this context, original maps are presented in parallel to a 20 metres long, audiovisual large-scale projection of our rotating planet, as it travels through the universe. More than 400 objects present a wide panorama of diverse findings including celestial observations and land surveys, the travels of the gods, rooms for body and soul, curses, oracles and acoustic chambers, drawing visitors into the antique world.
