This book cover illustration was handcrafted with layers of paper and painted details in gouache. The typography of “Dracula” was specially designed for the project. The novel’s themes of power and mystery were the main inspiration for the illustration. The piece’s fundamental composition demonstrates Dracula’s manipulative power. The vertical composition with red as the predominant colour furthermore references his thirst for blood. The Dracula piece implies the mysteriousness of a character who is unknown throughout most of the story. This mystery is represented by the control this character exerts without showing his face.
