Authors’ Boras
As part of the Rijeka European Capital of Culture project, 16 writers spent a month in the Kvarner Gulf and on its islands. On the sea of the Kvarner Gulf, bora wind often breaks seawater into very tiny droplets and foam, creating a thin, misty layer referred to as the “smoking sea”. The short stories in this project were written in this unique environment. The design of the book seeks to evoke the authors’ emotional and physical experience of the bora. The text is printed on tracing paper in such a way that the letters overlap and resemble the watery dust caused by the bora at sea. The reader has to turn the page to be able to read the next.
