The design concept behind this chair is based on the Tibetan saddle, which gives the chair its name, An – the Chinese word for saddle. Its expressive form is determined by traditional Far Eastern handicrafts. To make this chair, 42 pieces of wood are tied together with a cord using traditional patchwork techniques to create a seat with gently curved armrests and a high back. The oak wood used was stained with natural materials such as plant dyes or mineral pigments.

It is the modern interpretation of Far Eastern handicrafts which makes the fascinating design of the An chair so intriguing.
