With attention to details: Ralf Holleis and Petra Napier about their product “MIOS”

In the Red Dot Design Award, only a few products receive the distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”. The jury assigns this award to products of highest design quality and innovative achievement. The experts did so with the stroller “MIOS”, which received the top prize in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 for its groundbreaking design. It can be folded up in seconds to a compact format and fascinates with an extraordinarily stable construction as well as a highly detailed functionality that offers a multitude of customisation options. But who are the people behind this outstanding design? Who facilitates the everyday life of many mums and dads?

Ralf Holleis and Petra Napier have made it their goal to redefine urban mobility. “We want to enable trend-oriented and modern parents to continue to pursue their previous lives in an urban environment with the help of our stylish and functional products.”, said the designers about the aim they pursued when designing “MIOS”. “The details are not just the details. The details make the design.”, they underlined.

So, the two created a stroller with a perfect combination of high stability coupled with low weight through a reduced use of materials. “MIOS” features a static chromed aluminum frame that makes it look as if it is almost floating. But the stroller aims at demonstrating that design is not only functional but should also provide enjoyment in use. Therefore, “MIOS” offers a myriad of customization options that allow it to be easily adapted to different needs and demands: With the matching carry cot featuring a soft memory foam mattress, it delivers a high degree of comfort and safety, while an infant car seat turns it into a complete travel system. Thereby, it is always important for the designers “to [create] essential, complex and functional products in a simple and appealing way […].”

Being honoured with a Red Dot: Best of the Best is something very special for them: “It is a confirmation of the work and passion we, as a team, have put into the product.” On 9 October 2017, the registration phase for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018 begins. From then on, designers and manufacturers from all over the world have once again the opportunity to submit their best products.
