Red Dot Award: Design Concept

Winner announcement

Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2018 winners to be announced at the award ceremony in Singapore

The Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2018 received 5,640 entries this year, a higher number than ever before. With a 19% increase in submissions from 55 countries, the award has grown to be the largest and most recognised professional competition for design concepts and prototypes worldwide. The award’s results will be announced on 28 September 2018, the day of the Red Dot Gala. Winners from all over the world will then come together in Singapore to receive their trophies on stage. Furthermore, the winner of the Red Dot: Luminary, the competition’s highest achievement, will be revealed at the award ceremony. The distinction serves as an inspiration to aspire towards and is selected among the Red Dot: Best of the Best winners.

This year, three of the concepts are nominated for the highest accolade in the design competition: Among them is “MOTOROiD” by Yamaha Motor, winner from the mobility category. It is an electric motorcycle prototype that uses AI and Yamaha-exclusive technologies, aimed at creating an entirely new mobility experience. Also, “SCHOTT® LuminaLine” by SCHOTT, winner from the illumination category, is eligible for the award’s highest distinction. The aesthetic high-tech lighting concept is characterised by its versatility and improves life in many ways. Lastly, a winner from the culinary category is nominated for the Red Dot: Luminary. “Cookacross”, designed by Zaviè Design Studio, is a built-in cooktop with a fully customisable heating surface and guarantees a more enjoyable cooking experience.

Every year, the winning prototypes of the Red Dot Award: Design Concept are shown in the Red Dot Design Museum Singapore. They will furthermore be featured in the yearbook, the app and the online exhibition.
