The registration for the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016 is on and ends on 10 February 2016. Winning the Red Dot opens the doors for manufacturers and designers to a worldwide network and offers exclusive options for communicating their success. The Winners’ Benefits are, amongst others, the presentation of the product within the Winners’ Exhibition for four weeks, starting on the day of the Red Dot Gala. Afterwards, the prize-winning products become part of the permanent exhibition in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany for at least one year. Additionally, the Red Dot on Tour programme makes sure that a selection of award-winning products will be exhibited in further countries, recently in Hong Kong, Zurich, and Moscow.

Winners’ Exhibition

In the midst of inspiring industrial architecture, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents the prize-winning products in its four-week Winners’ Exhibition. As a highlight, all products which received the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best” are staged in the museum’s imposing White Hall. Portraits of the designers who created the awarded products complete the exhibition of the successful products of the year. In addition, the Red Dot: Design Team of the Year presents itself with its own special exhibition.

Red Dot Design Museum Essen
The Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany is located in the former boiler house of the coal mine “Zeche Zollverein” which was converted by the star architect Lord Norman Foster. It is one of the most impressive industrial buildings of the first half of the 20th century and houses the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design, with about 2,000 exhibits over an area exceeding 4,000 square metres. All products that win the Red Dot are put on show here for at least a year in the breath-taking setting of the former coal mine, which has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 2001. The Red Dot Design Museum attracts around 150,000 lovers of design and architecture each year and is a sought-after location for company and PR events.

The tradition each year is to celebrate the highlight of the Red Dot Award: Product Design, the Designers’ Night, in this “cathedral of industrial culture”. The legendary party combines unique architecture and modern product design, and also brings the proud Red Dot winners together with representatives from business and the media, marking the launch of the Winners’ Exhibition, which is going to be part of the permanent exhibition.

Red Dot on Tour
In order to internationally spread the idea of design, Red Dot regularly stops at design metropolises all around the globe. A selection of awarded products always joins its travelling. Thus, numerous award-winning designs were already showcased in Tokyo, Moscow, Dubai, Seoul, Prague, Hong Kong, Beijing, and Zurich to name but a few.

This way, Red Dot continuously expands contacts in the world’s most exciting economic zones and fosters the communication between international design studios, companies and the media for the laureates’ benefit.
