Red Dot at IFA 2015
During the opening keynote by LG Display, Professor Dr Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, discussed materials as drivers for innovation in the design process. The keynote of LG Display was titled "How displays will change our lives". For Sang-Beom Han, CEO and President of LG Display, there is no question that the future belongs to organic light emitting diodes: "OLED is the key to the future, enabling us to create new possibilities”. In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Peter Zec focused on the importance of a new technology like OLED for the design process. Using the example of products which successfully implemented OLED, the design expert explained the requirements for good designs and underlined the role of the Red Dot Design Award.
Further trends included a creative and technical highly interesting innovation from Dyson: The mattresses cleaner "Dyson V6 Mattress" has been especially designed for the absorption of mites and dust. During a PR event, British Dyson designers and Alexander C. Schmidt, Dyson-Managing Director for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, declared how powerful the new V6 vacuums mite debris and human skin particles.
At IFA, the ever-increasing presence of white goods was striking: Whether Beco, Electrolux or Kärcher - the big boys of the household appliance industry surprised with innovative booth and product design alike. An area full of exemplary equipment was created by Bosch, appointed “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2015” as "Robert Sachon & Bosch Home Appliances Design Team". The highest honorary title of the design world was communicated on a specially designed, imposing wall surface - the challenge cup "Radius", weighing about 15 kilogram, was also integrated.
Whether during the opening keynote, in the brochures of the exhibitors, or very close to the awarded products - the Red Dot Design Award was omnipresent at the IFA 2015. Brands and manufacturers used the distinctive emblem to distinguish themselves from competitors and to prove their own design strength. All Red Dot Award winners were assessed by an independent, international expert jury, whose members may not be employed in the industry.
On 26 October 2015, the registration period of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016 starts. Global brands and established design luminaries as well as up-and-coming professionals and medium-sized businesses alike are encouraged to take part in the international competition for the best products of the year.
