“In search of good design & innovation” - Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016 starts at the end of October
Innovations wanted: On 26 October 2015, the registration period of the Red Dot Award: Product Design will begin. With the help of the jury of experts, the international competition appraises the best products of the year. Manufacturers and designers from all over the world submit originals of their latest products in the hope of being awarded the sought-after distinction “Red Dot”. The three registration phases, “Early Bird”, “Regular”, and “Latecomer”, give participants time until 10 February 2016 to submit their products.
Global brands and established design luminaries as well as up-and-coming professionals and medium-sized businesses alike are encouraged to take part in the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016. Neither the selling price nor the prominence of the brand count, but exclusively the product’s quality and originality. The award-winning products will be displayed in the Red Dot Design Museums, the Online Presentation and in the Red Dot Design Yearbook. By featuring the winner label in their own marketing and communications, the laureates can use their well-deserved awards to distinguish themselves from their competitors.
31 categories provide space for the wide diversity to be found in the area of product design. Red Dot invites specialised design experts from every subject area to be a member of the jury. The around 40-strong team devotes itself to all products for three days both live and on-site. Innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility are just some of the criteria on which the decision is based. A special feature of the Red Dot Award: Product Design is the original products, of all sizes and from all industries, that are submitted.
Young talents are encouraged to a special degree. On 9 December 2015, the Young Professionals Application Day, graduates of design courses, who have obtained their academic qualifications within the past five years, have the opportunity to take part in the draw for one of 50 free registrations. In addition to the registration for the competition, the up-and-coming talents will be provided with comprehensive benefits if they win an award.
It is a tradition to honour the laureates at the grand awards ceremony, the Red Dot Gala. In 2015, the competition registered 4,928 entries from 56 nations. Only 81 products received the highest single distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best”.
