Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design

Red Dot CEO gives an exclusive guided tour

“Icons of brand design”: expert tour with Red Dot CEO Professor Dr. Peter Zec

“Icons of brand design”- Under this motto Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, will give an exclusive guided tour in the Museum für Kommunikation Berlin on Tuesday, 17 December at 5.30 p.m. During the tour through the current exhibition, the design expert will talk to the participants about the best brands and communications work of 2019 from his own point of view.

Until 12 January 2020, the studio exhibition “Best Brands & Communication Design - Red Dot Winners Selection 2019” will present an exclusive selection of the projects awarded in the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design this year. Registration for the free guided tour is not required (regular museum admission, children up to 17 years go free).

Excellent communication design and award-winning brands

Around 70 award-winning exhibits will be shown in the collection in Berlin. Peter Zec will present some of them during the guided tour, including his favorite projects. In addition, the founder of the Red Dot Award will explain to the visitors what makes good design for him and highlight current trends in communication design. He also gives the guests exclusive insights into the evaluation process at Red Dot.

Among the exhibits on display are all works and brands which were awarded with the Red Dot: Best of the Best for very high design quality. These include, for example, the poster series for the 59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival. The focus of the design was the celluloid camera as a “small miracle” of the film industry. The work was designed by Beetroot Design. Visitors to the exhibition can also take a look at the excellent packaging design of Hagenbeck coffee, which is influenced by the history of the traditional coffee brand and inspired by the famous Hagenbeck Zoo. The work of Max Meyer & Max Horn was designed by Gischt & Glut.

Guests to the presentation will also be able to see the projects that have been awarded the Red Dot: Grand Prix for outstanding design by the 24-member jury. One of the winning projects is the “BLOCBIRDS” exhibition design by Studio 212 Fahrenheit. It is dedicated in an unusual way to the representation of bird life in Europe and challenges the perception of the visitors.

Highlights of the exhibition

The exhibition offers some highlights: For example, the brands that have received the "Red Dot: Brand of the Year" award will be presented. This year, it went to Deutsche Telekom, HappyGoal and Grohe. Another highlight of the exhibition is the presentation of the Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2019. This year, the agency KW43 Branddesign by Grey Germany from Düsseldorf was pleased to receive this honorary title.

The studio exhibition will also show visitors the work of young designer Edward Lau from LASALLE College of the Arts. He convinced the jury with his magazine “A-B Magazine Issue No. 1 - Right of Asylum” and received the Red Dot: Junior Prize. The A-B Magazine addresses the issue of migration of people and examines the role of security, safety and refuge against the backdrop of the current refugee crisis.
